As usual, the excitement, tension and watered-down trash talk have been ramping up in earnest for the past week or so. If only because of that, there is absolutely no other event in golf that carries the interest that the Ryder Cup does. There are a million intangibles that factor into each Ryder Cup, ultimately determining which team takes home Samuel Ryder’s trophy. So, American captain Corey Pavin has decreed that his players will not be tweeting from Wales during this week’s 2010 Ryder Cup.

Almost immediately, fans who follow the sport’s stars on twitter were up in arms. How can Corey do this? We’re going to be left in the dark! We won’t be able to follow our favourite players! Those were the typical rants. Corey Pavin doesn’t care. And he shouldn’t, because Pavin just made the first of what he hopes are dozens of smart decisions, between now and next Sunday, that will return the Ryder Cup to the United States. (more…)

So, Tiger Woods’ aura – because it certainly wasn’t his game – overcame American Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin as he made his 2010 Ryder Cup captain’s picks this morning.

Woods, along with Zach Johnson (11th in Ryder Cup standings), Stewart Cink (14th) and Rickie Fowler (20th), managed to make enough of an impression on Pavin to have their names called. This will be Johnson’s second Ryder Cup. Cink’s fourth. Fowler will be a rookie. Woods will not. But, for a couple of big reasons, Corey Pavin will regret naming Tiger to the team. (more…)

In about three weeks, United States Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin may have a very tough decision to make regarding the world’s most well-known golfer, Tiger Woods. Eight American players, based on Ryder Cup points, will automatically be named to the U.S. team. Right now, Woods sits eighth on that list. But, if he can’t maintain a top-eight spot after next month’s PGA Championship, Pavin will have an agonizing choice to make. (more…)
