So, American captain Corey Pavin has decreed that his players will not be tweeting from Wales during this week’s 2010 Ryder Cup.

Almost immediately, fans who follow the sport’s stars on twitter were up in arms. How can Corey do this? We’re going to be left in the dark! We won’t be able to follow our favourite players! Those were the typical rants. Corey Pavin doesn’t care. And he shouldn’t, because Pavin just made the first of what he hopes are dozens of smart decisions, between now and next Sunday, that will return the Ryder Cup to the United States. (more…)

It’s been about five days since 24-year old Dustin Johnson coughed up an 82 after being the 54-hole leader at the United States Open at Pebble Beach. I waited five days to touch on it for a reason. Because I guarantee you that, in every waking hour since his melt-down, Johnson has thought about it. Some hours, he thought about it a lot. His 82 was the worst final round by a 54-hole leader in 99 years! And that’s why golf is, without a doubt, the toughest sport for any individual to excel at. (more…)

Two days ago, Ben Johnson’s former coach and mentor, Charlie Francis, died at the age of 61. The vast majority of Canadians, who are old enough to remember him, think of Francis as the man who made one terribly destructive decision. The decision that sent Canada hurdling toward absolute elation and crushing disappointment at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. But don’t blame Francis. He only did what he had to do. (more…)
