Rob Murphy

In 2007, Rob Murphy was named the CFL's Outstanding Offensive Lineman. Yesterday, he was named the CFL's Outstanding Twit.

Toronto Argonauts’ offensive lineman Rob Murphy has been fined by the Canadian Football League and the Argos for violating their social media policy by sending inappropriate tweets. Apparently Murphy, as @bigmurph56, wrote about “smelling foreigners this early in the A.M.” and that the “novelty of riding on a train thru Ontario and ‘Frenchland’ has worn out….get me off this damn thing!!!!” Don’t bother looking for the tweets. They have been removed from Murphy’s account. Same thing that happened to Murphy’s common sense. Removed. (more…)

Corey Pavin

United States Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin may have to choose whether or not to include Tiger Woods in the 2010 Ryder Cup Matches

In about three weeks, United States Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin may have a very tough decision to make regarding the world’s most well-known golfer, Tiger Woods. Eight American players, based on Ryder Cup points, will automatically be named to the U.S. team. Right now, Woods sits eighth on that list. But, if he can’t maintain a top-eight spot after next month’s PGA Championship, Pavin will have an agonizing choice to make. (more…)

Rexall Place

Edmonton's Rexall Place was modelled after Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver

Hey, Winnipeg, see if this statement sounds at all familiar – The NHL’s Edmonton Oilers will not play at Rexall Place, even if it’s renovated, after their current lease expires in 2014. That’s what Oilers’ owner Daryl Katz, and his cronies, told Edmonton city council this week. The Katz Group then denied that there was any implied threat to move the team. (That thud was me falling off my chair, laughing) Ringing any bells, Winnipeg? Have any advice for Edmonton? I bet you do. And I bet you’d be advising Edmonton to do whatever Katz demands, right? Because, if you had done that Winnipeg, and built a new rink in the mid-1990s, you’d still have the Jets. (more…)

Mike Weir

Canadian Mike Weir won the 2003 Masters, but tendonitis in his right elbow might prevent him from going low this week

A message to my fellow Canadians – grow up – quit your yearly bellyaching and hand-wringing about whether or not CBS Sports will go out of its way this weekend to show how Canadian golfers are doing at the RBC Canadian Open at St. George’s GC in Toronto. Here’s a perfect example. http://bit.ly/9fQJkw The Canadian media are like a bunch of anxious stage mothers. Desperate to have their perfect baby out front and centre in the school musical. Never mind that their little precious couldn’t sing his way out of a paper bag. Give it a rest, Canada! (more…)

Bill Daly

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly (seen presenting Clarence Campbell Bowl to Nicklas Lidstrom) issued a statement regarding Devils' signing of Kovalchuk

When it comes to administering its business, the National Hockey League is a complete joke! Sorry, but there is absolutely no other way to summarize this week’s ongoing Ilya Kovalchuk Gong Show. Owners can’t follow the rules. General managers pretend they’re within the rules. Gary Bettman and Bill Daly make their own rules as they go along. Being a fan of hockey is very easy. Being a fan of the National Hockey League is becoming more and more difficult. (more…)
