Pebble Beach Golf Links

Pebble Beach opened in February 1919. Beginning in 1947, Bing Crosby and Pebble became the hosts of golf's annual "Clam Bake." In 2010, Pebble will host its sixth major professional championship.

There are some things in sports that should never, ever change: The Open Championship should always be played at St. Andrews, the Chicago Cubs should forever play at Wrigley Field (I don’t care how old it gets) and the United States Open golf championship should always be contested at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Just the thought of Pebble hosting the U.S. Open gets my heart rate up. Pebble is, by far, the most beautifully challenging 18 holes in all of America. And I can’t wait to see how it will treat the game’s best this week. (more…)

Dion Phaneuf was acquired by the Maple Leafs in February 2010

Dion Phaneuf was acquired by the Maple Leafs on January 31, 2010. He had 10 pts, 34 PIM in 26 games with Toronto.

History will mark Monday, June 14, 2010 as the exact day that the Toronto Maple Leafs began a direct path toward a Stanley Cup championship. Time will, of course, record this day as the one on which defenceman Dion Phaneuf became the 17th captain in the history of the NHL’s second-most storied franchise. And with that move alone, GM Brian Burke and head coach Ron Wilson have started down a path that will, without doubt, end in a championship.

It might have something to do with the media fawning over those same stars (i.e. David Beckham). As I key this in, the South Africa/Mexico match is about to begin the tournament. So, over the next month, I have decided there are five things I will do during the World Cup in South Africa. (more…)

The day after the Stanley Cup Playoffs end is always a very hard day. No game to look forward to. No tension building in a series. No more hockey games…for a couple months anyway. Those were, without a doubt, one of the greatest editions of the Stanley Cup Playoffs ever. The upstart Philadelphia Flyers. The ready-to-be-annointed Chicago Blackhawks. Awesome. So, before we close the book on 2010, let’s take a quick look at the things that made the 2010 playoffs so memorable. (more…)

Montréal Alouettes with 2009 Grey Cup

Montréal Alouettes won 2009 Grey Cup where it should have been played - in Calgary

For the rest of time, the Grey Cup game should only be played in either Edmonton, Calgary, Regina or Winnipeg. Based on the way Edmonton just sold out the 2010 game – before the current CFL season has even started – it’s a no-brainer. Those four cities are the heart and soul of Canadian football. They deserve Canada’s championship game – every single year. And the Grey Cup should never, ever again be played in Toronto. (more…)
