Phoenix Coyotes belong in Winnipeg

If I hear or read one more time that the Phoenix Coyotes are the NHL’s “feel good” story of the year, I’m gonna hurl. Team that is almost mismanaged into the ground, in a city that the NHL should never have been in, has a 100-point season. Are you kidding me?

But they are connected to the potential “feel good” story of the year. The rumour mill continues to churn out the tidbit that the Coyotes are being positioned for a return to Winnipeg. (more…)

Tiger Woods bails again

We got a sneak preview of another of Tiger Woods’ stumbles (I refuse to refer to them as steps) towards winning back golf fans with the revelation that he’ll be speaking with the media on Monday, April 5th at Augusta.

Edmonton Oilers' owner Daryl Katz

Let’s take the Edmonton Oilers. A team extremely rich in tradition and successful history…maybe too successful. I realize Daryl Katz has only had a bird’s-eye view of the debacle in Alberta’s capital since he became owner in February 2008. But how long does someone in his position have to watch the train wreck before they act? And act smartly! (more…)

Common sense, NHL head checks – like oil and water

I can barely stand by and watch the National Hockey League bumble and fumble its way around another hot-button issue – head checks and what to do about the recent rash of them.

If the boneheads at the top of the pyramid (NHL league execs, owners, general managers and coaches) really wanted to solve this problem, they would act on it almost overnight. But it’s like watching kindergarten students trying to solve Rubik’s Cube. Not only do they not know the goal they are trying to achieve, they don’t even know where to begin. (more…)
